Hemming the Pants

Houston Cummings is in his tenth year as Director of Bands at Rice High School in Altair, Texas.  His responsibilities include coordination of all aspects of the Band program at Rice Consolidated Independent School District.  His instructional duties at Rice High School include directing rehearsals for the Concert Band, Marching Band and assisting the junior high bands.  Mr. Cummings graduated from O. Perry Walker High School in New Orleans, Louisiana and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Instrumental Music Education from Louisiana Tech University. 

Mr. Cummings has taught for twenty-five years at every level of the public schools.  Before coming to Rice Consolidated, he was Director of Bands at the following schools: Haughton High School (Haughton, LA.),
De Queen Public Schools (De Queen, AR.), Norphlet Public Schools (Norphlet, AR.), El Dorado Public Schools
(El Dorado, AR.), and Edna ISD (Edna, TX). 
Louisiana Tech University named Mr. Cummings the “Bandmaster of the Year” in 1996. 


His professional affiliations include the Association of Texas Small School Bands, Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Bandmasters Association, and Phi Beta Mu.


Mr. Cummings has been married to Lucinda for twenty-five years and they have three grown daughters.  
Mrs. Cummings is the Color Guard Instructor for the Raider Band and also teaches fifth grade at Garwood School.




Mr. Richard Garcia, Assistant Band Director



Mandy Grudziesky is in her first year as Assistant Band Director.  Her responsibilities include asiisting with the high school band, conductor of the eighth grade band, and director of the Eagle Lake Intermediate beginner band.  Ms. Grudziesky graduated from Ganado High School in Ganado, Texas and holds a Bachelor of Music degree from Sam Houston State University
. 

Her professional affiliations include the Association of Texas Small School Bands, Texas Music Educators Association, and the Texas Bandmasters Association.  




Mrs. Lucinda Cummings is in her tenth year as the Color Guard Instructor for the Rice High School Band.  Her responsibilities include coordination of all aspects of the color guard which includes choreagraphy of all routines, uniform design, and any sewing needs for the line.  She has taught color guard for twenty-five years and has taught color guard camps in Arkansas, Louisiana, and Texas.  Her color guard was named the Best 2A Color Guard at the Blinn College Marching Contest in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010.

Mrs. Cummings graduated from Crossett High School in Crossett, Arkansas, attended Louisiana Tech University (where she met Mr. Cummings), and received her bachelors degree from the University of Houston - Victoria.  She is a fifth grade teacher at Garwood School.
