UNIFORM CARE
Each student will be issued a clean band uniform for this year. There is no cleaning charge for the uniforms. The school district will clean the uniforms once during marching season and again after our last marching performance. Students are encouraged to have their uniform dry cleaned as necessary during the marching season. While the uniform is in your care, we hope you will realize the necessity of proper care of the uniform to maintain the huge investment of the taxpayers’ dollars. We ask your help in the proper maintenance, care, and wearing of this uniform. The following is from Demoulin Uniforms.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE WEARER
1. To be aware of the complete user care responsibilities contained herein.
2. To comply with the following general care recommendations by category:
A. Proper Professional Dry Cleaning Only
(1.) To include coats, trousers, and capes (DM only).
(2.) Never wet, wash, or rinse these items.
(3.) Never attempt to hand clean in any manner
(4.) Never put a just worn uniform in a closed garment bag. The moisture from perspiration can cause serious damage
(5.) To minimize the damage to a dry clean only item that has been wet:
(a.) Hang separately and allow to air dry in an open, well-ventilated environment at ambient temperatures until completely dry. (Depending on condition 24-72 hours).
(b.) After complete air-drying, promptly initiate requisite professional dry cleaning and/or pressing.
(c.) Never heat a garment or accessory in any manner, (i.e. tumble dry, iron, press, blow dry, or hang near a stove.)
(d.) Never store any uniform item wet. Never return any wet uniform item to its bag or case. Always proceed immediately with 5.a. and 5.b. above.
(6) Do not contact the uniform garment (for the purposes of modifying conditions surrounding use of the uniform garment) with:
(a) Anistats
(b) Water/Oil proffers
(c) Spot Cleaning Chemicals
(d) Other topical chemicals such as: bleaches, spray deodorants, perfumes, brighteners, facial make-ups, etc.
(7) Examine the uniform garment after each use for soiling, stains, etc.
(8) Stained uniform garment should be taken as soon as possible to the professional dry cleaner selected by the Band Directors (Country Fresh Cleaners), and the locations and the type of stain communicated to the dry cleaner on delivery of the garment for cleaning. Should you incur a mud stain, do not try to remove it while still wet. This will only assist in setting the mud stain. Wait until thoroughly dry, then lightly scrape off and send to the dry cleaner.
(9) Never store a stained uniform such as at the end of the current band season until the next band season. Time tends to set stains.
(10) Uniform garments should be dry-cleaned a minimum of three times during football season. This is in addition to the district cleaning the uniforms.
(11) Prior to each regular dry cleaning the uniform should be inspected and the locations and type of any soils or stains communicated to the dry cleaner prior to cleaning
(a) Uniforms should be examined carefully, at the dry cleaners after dry cleaning to determine whether or not the identified stains and soils have been satisfactorily removed or if any staining, bleeding, or wrinkling has occurred during dry cleaning or pressing. Follow up undesirable variances immediately.
(12) Do not hand press. Professionally press only.
B. Hand Cleaning with Rubbing Alcohol.
(1.) To include: Vinyl on top of Hats
(2.) Clean with a soft rag and rubbing alcohol. Do not rub, but wipe clean turning the cloth frequently. Excess rubbing will force dirt into the pores of the vinyl making the soil or stain worse.
C. Machine Wash
(1.) To include: Detachable collar liners for hard collar coat.
(2.) Machine wash after each use with a mild detergent and rinse thoroughly. Tumble dry at low to medium heat on air dry on a clean towel.
(3.) If there are any specific questions about care and maintenance of any part of your Demoulin Uniform, please feel free to contact the Director of Bands at 234-3535 ext. 1108.
D. Helpful hints on wearing your uniform items.
(1.) Use the adjustable straps placed above the shoulders to insure that a consistent degree of shoe will show on all band members at all times. This also alleviates looseness in the crotch area and seam splitting in the seat.
(2.) Our hat has an adjustable scalloped headrest sack/band. A drawstring in the top regulates the depth of the head in the shako. The drawstring should be tied loosely so that the shako will be worn low at ear-top and eyebrow level.
